Liver Health

ChildLife® Clinicals Liver Health is a unique mixture of carefully selected herbs, combined with specific vitamins and nutrients to support daily liver function.

Liver Function: ChildLife® Clinicals Liver Health targets the three main functions of the liver: synthesis, storage, and detoxification

Synthesis & Storage

The liver is responsible for synthesizing an array of molecules and substances important to bodily functions. Bile, which facilitates in the digestion of fats from our diet and moves metabolic waste out for excretion, is created by the liver. Providing stores of energy in the form of glycogen, the liver assists in the maintenance of blood glucose levels.

Specific Requirements: Liver Health formula includes nutrients for daily liver functions such as Choline, Inositol and B Vitamins. Studies show a choline-deficient diet can lead to liver impairment.1 Further, the liver can restore its health by addition of choline and inositol to the diet.2

Detoxification

As the primary detoxifying organ of the human body, the liver breaks down and prepares for excretion, environmental and manmade toxins that we face daily. The liver undergoes three main phases of detoxification, each with its specific requirements for optimal efficiency:

  •  Phase I –Transformation: Molecules are made more water-soluble by cytochrome p450 enzymes. Free radicals may be generated in the process, creating a need for high-potency antioxidants to inhibit the formation of reactive oxygen species generated during metabolic detoxification.

Specific Requirements: B Vitamins such as Riboflavin (Vit B2), and Niacin (Vit B3) are required for efficient processing by enzymes of the Phase I transformation reactions.3 Liver Health formula includes these B vitamins as well as herbs with high antioxidant power such as Burdock Root and Milk Thistle which limits lipid peroxidation in hepatocytes.4

  •  Phase II – Conjugation: Conversion of Phase I molecules into less reactive metabolites, effectively neutralizing these substances, and altering the chemical structures for easy removal.

Specific Requirements: Pantothenic Acid, Vitamin B12, and Selenium are used in Phase II Conjugation reactions and included in Liver Health formula. Vitamin B12 is needed for methylation reactions, while Selenium acts as both a cofactor and antioxidant in conjugation reactions involving glutathione.5,6 When specifically targeting environmental carcinogens, Phase II conjugation reactions use enzymes of the family Arylamine N-acetyltransferases, which utilize co-factors synthesized from Pantothenic Acid.7

  • Phase III– Elimination: Conjugated substances are actively transported out of hepatocytes to meet with bile which is drained into the duodenum of the gastrointestinal tract, and exits the body through excrement.

Specific Requirements:  Dandelion and Burdock roots have been included in Liver Health formula to support healthy elimination of detoxified waste from the body.

ChildLife® Clinicals Liver Health includes nutrients that support daily liver functions and target all three phases of detoxification, while providing protective herbs for minimizing oxidative stress.
